The Pokémon Direct happened this morning and while we only got two announcements they were rather big announcements. First, they announced that we’re getting remakes of the first two Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games in one package on Switch coming out on March 6,2020. We didn’t get too much other info but the gameplay we saw showed great improved visuals and we can’t wait to play it.
Then the bigger news. Like is common with Pokémon games it would be fair to assume that we were expecting a sequel to Sword & Shield down the line that would add the content we had wanted when it came out. But Gamefreak surprised us with the announcement of the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pack. Not only does this expansion put old Pokémon in the Galar region, it gives you new activities, as well as new stories to go through as well as new legendary Pokémon.
These two expansions will be broken up into two parts. These two DLC have themes to them and the first ones is Growth and will be named the Isle of Armor. It will come out in June of 2020. You’ll be taken to a new part of the Galar region to train with Leon’s mentor, and new rivals. They’ll also be a new legendary you can catch named Kubfu which will have different typing based on the game.
The second DLC is about discovery and is named The Crown Tundra which will come out in Fall 2020.In it you’ll join an exploration team to explore this area. You’ll also find a new legendary named Calyrex. It also introduces a new form of co-op. Ever wondered what the raid dens looked like if you could walk around in them? In this DLC you’ll be able to explore them with your friends and in here you’ll be able to find old legendaries.
The DLC pass also introduces new looks for your trainer and new challenges on the main island after you complete it. And so no one gets left in the cold, an update will be pushed out to allow people with the dlc to trade the Pokémon with people who don’t have the DLC.
I think this is a step in the right direction. If it means a cheaper way to get more fun out of Pokémon ( which I was probably gonna buy anyway) I’m glad for it. Some of it maybe should of been in the game from the beginning but this is better than ignoring us and just making another game for $60.
The Expansion Pass will be $30 and you can pre order now.
