We’re heading towards streaming wars within video games and while we dread the day gaming is all done online a lot of companies are trying to make it seem like it’ll be as painless as possible. Case in point with Nvidia’s new service. In addition to letting you play new games you can also put the games you have on your Steam account on the service. It’s more of a system that works hand in hand with another service but when that service is the biggest seller of games it’s less of a crutch and more of a win for the service. The only thing is if you go for the free one you only get to play for an hour but they are running a deal where you can be a founder for $4.99 a month. Hopefully services like this make the all digital future easy but there’s still something to having the game physically.

The Wonderful 101 is funded for the Switch
The Wonderful 101 has already hit its Switch fund goal! After doing a Kickstarter to fund the game on Switch and other platforms the Kickstarter went up a mere half an hour ago and it’s already hit its Switch fund goal! I’m sure many people are excited but let’s hope it can come to other platforms to for more people to experience and maybe get a sequel.
Sony Is Asking People if they want remote play on switch and I’m excited
According to a poster named /YouRedditHereFirst they got a surgery implying new features coming to remote play like a DualShock that can be used for portable gaming, using Remote Play not connected to the Internet, Ps1 and PS2 games and a lot more. But the biggest surprise was a question asking if you’d like to see Remote Play on other platforms such as Xbox, Apple TV, Android TV and the Nintendo Switch! They could just be asking to make plans for the future or may never use it but I hope we’re all looking forward to this future we’re we aren’t limited to just the specific box we brought and can play on more things. Of course this is surprising because the Switch is a competitor in terms of consoles but in terms of what the consoles can do of course the ps4 is the winner. But it’s nice to see Sony considering letting their apps be on other platforms. Horizon Zero Dawn on the go anyone?
We’re getting an Animal Crossing Switch and it’s Beautiful
So without warning Nintendo just announced a new Animal Crossing themed Switch. It comes with a custom dock, Switch console, and joy cons. The back of the Switch has icons of things in the game while the dock has the Nooks on the front on an island. The joy cons are also light green and blue. It goes on sale on 3/13 for $299. I’m sure the wait for the game just got a little more unbearable!
The Best Smash Like Fighting Game is Getting It’s Definitive Edition
In my opinion if you can’t Smash on a switch the next best thing is Rivals of Aether. It’ll run on basically any laptop and is available for the Xbox One and will only set you back $15. If you haven’t tried it but want to scratch that Smash itch I highly recommend it. I bounce between the two regularly so much i would say I play both equally, as do many people. It has a relatively small scene, but does have one, but being on more consoles couldn’t hurt build that community either. So I hope everyone’s excited because the game is finally coming to Switch! A trailer for Rivals of Aether: Definitive Edition was just released citing the release for Summer of this year. Only a few more months till Smash has some competition! What do you think of the game? Have you tried it yet? Are you excited? Let start a conversation going in the comments.
Two of 2019s Biggest Games Are Getting DLC and I’m okay with that
DLC is something that gets a very mixed reception from people. There are times that it is used correctly and other times it is used to squeeze more money out of the people buying the game. For many seeing DLC added into a game can leave a very sour taste in the mouth of many consumers who feel ripped off that they bought a game for $60 and have to put in more money to get everything out of it.
So you can imagine the reception when Kingdom Hearts 3 and Pokémon Sword and Shield, three of the biggest games for 2019 were announced to be getting DLC. Now this might’ve been understandable if Kingdom Hearts 3 and Pokémon Sword/Shield were not some of the more controversial games of 2019. Many said that Kingdom Heart 3 felt unfinished in terms of its story and felt like it offered less than its predecessors, only to find out that DLC launching in the new year would help improve these areas. And for Pokémon Sword and Shield with the backlash of not adding all the Pokémon to the game, animations not looking as good as promised, and many other complaints fans had leading up to the game to find out that DLC was coming (even though Game freak said you wouldn’t need the DLC to get all the pokemon when they were added) of course there was uproar because of this added content that two months after the game came out you would have to pay to access.
And this sucks I won’t sugarcoat it. If they needed more time to put the game together I feel that we would’ve been better off getting Pokémon Sword and Shield this year either in November or somewhere in the middle of the year with the DLC added on as a full package and more people would’ve been happy. And while Kingdom Hearts 3 could of done the same thing it has a bit of a different expectation. But I feel as if it was the safest things the companies could have done to improve the experiences of the games.
Now I feel Pokémon is relatively self-explanatory but I will explain why I feel this way. Pokémon has always operated off of a year-by-year basis. We could get a new game each year or they could need time to complete the actual new game so they release a sequel to the game from the year before. While these games added more content to play through it meant you were buying the same game for some new pieces of content at the same full price the game cost originally. The only game I wouldn’t call a carbon copy is Pokémon Black and White 2 to which they added new things such as a new story and new characters. But before this if you were buying a new version of a Pokémon game be it Emerald, Platinum, Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, or Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon they were the same game with a little more added content. So I think Nintendo and Game Freak we’re trying to take a step towards the future in embracing DLC by adding things later when it was finished instead of releasing a new version of the game for $60 where you restart the game and can’t transfer everything over.Pokémon I feel has always deserved a break between its releases so if we had waited an extra year to get Pokémon Sword and Shield and got the DLC built in it would’ve felt like more of a complete package. But as things stand now it seems like the DLC will take the place of the Pokémon game for this year so at least we know they’ll take their time on the DLC and not rush to finish a full Pokémon game. And what was show already looked interesting, but we will have to see.
Kingdom Hearts is a harder series to explain. While many people tell you that we’ve been waiting 15 years for Kingdom Hearts 3 that’s technically not true. While Kingdom Hearts 2 came out in 2005 there have been a number of new KH(Kingdom Hearts) games that have come out since. Kingdom Hearts 3 itself has only been in development since 2013.
Kingdom Hearts 3 was put off until Final Fantasy 15 was done so it was actually started in 2013. Numora didn’t want to start development on it until Final Fantasy was done. And even when it was announced in 2013 Nomora thought it was announced to early. Nothing shows that more than the limited info we would get yearly and the impatient growing within the community. It’s understandable that they would have wanted to release it as early as possible. I, however would of rathered a different strategy. I would’ve rather seen some gameplay from different worlds last year to show us that the game was progressing well and then had it released this year with the DLC with it than having had the game released last year albeit in a state that I think was still a good game, but a confusing one and have questions that would not be answered until a full year later.
But even saying that Kingdom Hearts 3 when it was released sold well despite the divide with fans and many are excited for the DLC. We do know that the DLC will be well worth the wait as Kingdom Hearts has a tendency to release a final mix version of the games which adds more stuff. These were done in a time where DLC wasn’t really a thing however so in the year 2020 it’s nice to see that they’re taking the DLC route instead of the final mix through at least right away. Many people may not be happy about having to buy DLC but it is cheaper than a brand new version.
Do we have to be excited that’s really content came as DLC? Of course not. But I ask long time fans of this series, would you rather buy a new version of the game for retail price or DLC that’s half the price? I fee like with both DLC we are getting our moneys worth and I am excited for both of them. What do you think? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter
New Soccer Game Announced By BANDAI NAMCO And It Looks… Fun??
BANDAI NAMCO just published a trailer for Captain Tsubasa, a soccer game based off the manga of the same name. Of course, it being a soccer anime you can expect more exciting mechanics than you would get out of FIFA. Maybe it’ll convince a few non sports fans and even a few sports fans to try it. I know I’ll be picking it up. Watch the trailer here.

The Nintendo Switch Is My Favorite Console
The year the Switch came out I was lost. My second year into college I had already switched majors nearly flunking when I realized I understood nothing of coding and had to switch majors. I ended up switching to media and communications, a major that as far as I could tell could sharpen my writing skills as a whole, give me that insider look on TV and reporting in general, and that was a whole not easier than coding.
I didn’t go into Media and Communications with a plan. I was told I could be undecided in my major till my 2 year at the latest, as the anxious person I am, being undecided sounded worse than not just choosing a major. I was also in a panic. The summer before I sat down with my mother to plan out college tuition and was stunned. I couldn’t be undecided if we were paying all this money and I would be paying it back for even longer after I graduated. So with the encouragement of some friends and having nothing to lose I switched to media and communications.
It was honestly the best thing I could of done. It didn’t suddenly make me a social person, but it made it helped me to improve and even imagine a future where I wouldn’t be so scared of something like talking to new people. But I wasn’t finding answers for what I wanted to do. The only reason I think I didn’t go into a depression right there and then is that I pushed it down so often it worked for a while, and my amazing friends. But it would always bubble back up.
While this was happening I was discovering what many believed to be there life after college. I can’t tell you the number of times people told me I wouldn’t have time for things like video games when I was working or that I didn’t come to that conclusion myself. I went through plans in my head trying to plan out when I could sit down and plan games between work once I graduated but of course it didn’t work.
The thought of giving up video games depressed me. Video games had led me to so many things so many people that I loved I couldn’t imagine it not being a part of my life forever. And it scared me. Video games weren’t my whole identity but they were a part of it and to lose that wasn’t something I was prepared for. But I also couldn’t see myself someone working out the time to sit in front of a TV to play games. Especially when other hobbies had already made the jump to a portable option. Things like comics, books, movies, and shows could all be watched on a smartphone at any point throughout the day. It was so easy to start watching it reading in one place and continue in another. It was even easier to watch a YouTube video something that has essentially become my TV to watch a quick video.
Of course things like the 3ds already existed but with the limited power and it being 6 years old at that point I was sure it was reaching the end of its life cycle. But then Nintendo started teasing the NX.
Between high school and college I had seen a lot of concepts and leaks for this console. The Wii U wasn’t doing well and if Nintendo tried to push it for a few more years they could go under. So when Nintendo themselves finally started teasing it I got excited.
A console I won’t have time to play but I was definitely going to put the money down I ping ponged between trying to decide if it was worth it or not. If I couldn’t see myself having that much time to use a console, did it make sense to buy it especially when it would most likely be over $200-300. But these thoughts did nothing to quell my excitement.
The day of the reveal I gathered in my room with two other friends and waited for it to start. I was excited albeit nervous for what Nintendo would show. And what they did show shocked me.
A fully portable console that was also a home console. Of course being Nintendo it was still underpowered from the recent console but that didn’t matter to me. A console you can carry around. I watched in awe and excitement as game after game was announced for it. My jaw dropped at the price. And my friends and I screamed at what is considered the best Zelda game ever released.
I’m sure this isn’t a surprising story for many especially people who are already further in the adult world and don’t have time to sit down a play games. But even if it isn’t the Nintendo Switch has been my favorite little console.
I was amazed and thrilled by the number of Youtubers who found an amazing start with the Switch. With the positive reception as a whole the Switch got. And while it took my a year to get it, since that day a day hasn’t gone by that I’ve played it. I don’t know if this was a real concern. Gaming has been such a big part of my life that I’m not sure I would of actually given it up. But I’m happy the Switch came along to stop those doubts. And hey it even helped me find what I wanted to do: write about video games
Why Video Games Are Such An Important Part Of My Life
The gaming community can be a mess. We rage at some things when it doesn’t go our way and can be toxic when it comes to being inviting to new people. But even with this it’s become my greatest hobby and I love it to death.
I grew up playing Nintendo. I was always fascinated by what they could come up with especially after being told time and time again I chose the wrong console for that generation. I get that sense of wonder from my mother. When I was little my mom would pull out her NES and we’d play the first Zelda for hours on end. It was the first game I ever beat. And we did so for all Zelda games up to Twilight Princess though at that point my mom had stopped playing.
When I was little I always seemed to have a fascination with these games that never struck anyone else around me. I’d call it look at gaming as a passion while everyone around me looked at it as a hobby. I couldn’t get enough. I loved exploring the island of Super Mario Sunshine, the darker world of Hyrule in Twilight Princess, the shouting matches that a round of Mario Kart would start, sneaking my DS into school to play Pokémon with me friends. I loved it so much I bothered the people around me just to try to get to try a taste of it.
I bugged my sisters nonstop to play with me which might of worked too well as my older sister found Spinx and the Cursed Mummy and took over my GameCube. But I was just happy when I could get anyone to feel what I felt playing these games. I even started looking at jobs in gaming from starting high school. I went from wanting to code to not really being sure what I wanted to do until my last year of college even with it staring me in the face.
When I couldn’t play a game I was reading about it. I had and still do have loads of Nintendo Power I would sneak to class to read when my mom and teachers weren’t looking, pouring over the pages with some of my friends. With smartphones becoming more popular I went into a frenzy bookmarking and setting notifications on Twitter for the second websites like Kotaku and IGN would upload. I religiously went through the IGN app in high school when at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I wrote ideas for stories, tried to design characters, and even played out scenes in my head of these stories.
Gaming has been such a big part of my life and will always be of that I’m sure. It’s why I started this blog albeit late. Video games have led me to friends I love dearly and wouldn’t trade for anything in the world, a passion I want to continue, and made me more imaginative as a person. And I can’t thank every gaming company enough for this.
I love that people can post their creative takes for other people to see whether that be cosplay, stories, art etc. I love that the writers will talk to people about the articles they write just to discuss it. I love that stupid articles like how big Luigis penis is exists. I just love that despite the bad eggs the gaming community is welcoming and at least personally always has.
I hope this blog will help start discussions about new gaming news as it pops up, opinions whatever. I just hope that people can spread what they love.
